Samantha had always loved fashion ever since she could remember. Although she was born into a reserved blue-collar family she wanted to be a model but her parents would not let her. They wanted her to go to school for accounting to get real job just like the rest of her siblings.
After her divorce from an unhappy marriage at a young age she goes on a quest to rediscover herself. She leaves her small hometown and a secure job in a local newspaper and moves to Miami for better opportunities.
A string of unsuccessfully job interviews soon leaves her depressed until one evening a friend suggests she goes to a private party where she could meet some people in the lifestyle publishing industry. The friend had heard of an unadvertised job opening at an international but exclusive lifestyle and fashion magazine that may just be perfect for her. Lacking networking skills Samantha was unsuccessful in trying to connect with the Editor-in-Chief at the party and feeling dejected she lashes out at the next man that tries to flirt with her.
Later her friend manages to use her connections to arrange for an interview at Mode Lifestyle Magazine for her. However, when she gets to the office she realizes that the man she had lashed out at during the party was Brad, the very handsome but mischievous creative director of the magazine, and who would be the first person to interview her.
Despite her lack of experience, Samantha shows so much passion for the job during her interviews at MODE that a final decision now had to be made between her and Tina, another more experienced applicant. Both women are keen on getting the job and would do anything, it seems, to stop their opponent including sabotaging their work and spreading rumors to destroy the other’s reputation.
Samantha realizes she must first win over the Features Director, a no nonsense fashion conscious woman who is yet to be convinced that Samantha has what it takes to work successfully for their magazine. After she wins over the features director together they have to convince the President and Editor-in-Chief that, although she has little experience, she has what it takes to represent the company.
So the two competitors were each given a set of tasks to complete for MODE including arranging interviews with celebrities and politicians, putting together fashion shows, and arranging fashion editorial photo shoots, all in time to meet the magazine’s deadlines. To win, Samantha and Tina must pull out all their creativity and everything they have learnt to finally make their dreams come true. Unfortunately a dark secret from Samantha’s past is quickly catching up with her and now threatens to destroy her chances of ever finding true happiness again.
